Nacido en Rochelle, Illinois, su nombre completo era Lloyd Chauncey Ingraham. Actuó en más de 280 filmes entre 1912 y 1950, dirigiendo más de un centenar desde 1913 a 1930.

Fallecido en Los Ángeles, California, a causa de una neumonía, fue enterrado en el Crematorio Chapel of the Pines, en Los Ángeles.
